She said.........
‘I do’, all smiles
Her heart burning with strong hate ready to do harm at any slight sense of provocation.
He danced away, happy to the music of the live band. His mother’s head bobbing, such a nice woman, ‘sorry am going to break your son into pieces and make him miserable just like me’ her smiling face deceptive, her steps prophetic like an olokun priestess, her looks mesmerizing till she caught a glimpse of new paths undiscovered, the ground refused to open, she was stiff with shock, her lips trembling not to the sound of the music but to the rhythm in his eyes. The large crowd kept changing scenes, it was a society wedding and everybody just had to mingle but she stood still locked in his gaze, in a fleeting moment he disappeared only to reappear by her side whispering ‘I’ll always love you’, her heart wrenched with hurt and her bf knew, running to be by her side while he disappeared into the dancing, mingling crowd, she hoped that would be the last time she’ll hear or see him forever.
She remembered last night with him, his hands stroking her long neck, calling her name like in a dream touching her breast lightly moans escaping her throat, she shivered in excitement waiting for his hands to slide into her, deep deep into that place. His name was all she could hear in her brain. His long fingers running through her hair sent shivers down her spine, she could remember the parts of her skin those hands trailed.
As she stood there her chief bride’s maid trying to coax her to dance to the beat of the band. All this happening within a split of a second. Her gaze trailed him dancing oblivious of the drama playing out. She quickly scanned the crowd of society climbers and was satisfied that none noticed what happened, she continued dancing with renewed vigor, working up a sweat praying that all things go fine today.
Her Mother in Law noticed the guy in the green kaftan leaning and whispering to Daughter in Law, she noticed his build and his eyes, and how he brushed his hands on her shoulders, she saw the look in DIL eyes and knew there was trouble brewing somewhere in the future between stranger and DIL. she wondered what she knew about DIL, not much only that she was a sweet pretty girl. Respectful and helpful, maybe a bit reserved, quiet and shy but all that she concluded that with time they’ll get used to each other. She was happy when Dayo finally brought her home as his bride after all she read in the papers and gossip columns about their on and off relationship. She knew her mother very well via tabloids and town gossip, nice and soft spoken and was glad on her son’s choice; after all she was aware of her son’s status in the society as a player causing heartbreaks everywhere in town and even abroad. She chuckled to her self remembering an incidence that happened in St Louis 3 years ago involving the Jaiye – Daniels’s daughter… ‘emm what’s that her name’ she tried to remember. Her Dayo was a handsome catch she must confess just like his father 32 years ago. For the past year, he’s changed and she attributed that to DIL and now this unfolding drama was suspicious she thought to herself as she meandered her way to DIL, her eyes fixed on the back of the departing stranger, she caught a side glimpse of him but his build she’ll never forget. She thought of the feeling she had when she saw those hands touch DIL’s face, she quickly shrugged it off. Getting to the circle of the dancing crowd, the band leader started singing her praise; she could see her hubby from the corner of her eyes searching for her, her face broke into a wide smile, thoughts of DIL was quickly forgotten as she made her way to her hubby. They just celebrated 35 wonderful years of being together and that was her prayer for her kids and their family. The K1 band where playing their hit songs interspaced with the name of Chief Soladoye Arlington and his beautiful wife. The spraying crowd soon multiplied around the older couple as the danced to the beat, Thousand Naira note was rare sight as 100 dollars and pounds where seen flying in the air. The crowd soon covered the dancing old and new couples.
DIL was soon caught up in the mood of the moment, her $5000 Vera Wang dress was not stopping her from dancing yahoozee , Dayo was strutting his stuff well in an Ozwald Boateng suit, she was sure millions of girls would kill to be in her shoes. She stretched to look for her parents, they too where making theier way to the dance floor never to be out done by the Arlington’s, Brid. Gen. (Rtd) Mohammadu Lawal and his lovely wife soon created their own crowd of dancing enthusiasts with the band leader singing the praises of both great men and their families. The wedding was themed wedding of the two powerful and big families of the country. Same magazines that carried countless stories of their off and on relationships where fighting to get exclusive scoops of the couples and the wedding.
